Practicing welding

I started practicing with the flux core wire welding gun. Not quite the quality of welds I need. I will have to keep practicing. I am not blaming this welder, though the Lincoln I used in the past was better. I am trying to make harder welds.

Designing for the Stage Stands

My design is to build some adjustable stage stands out of metal. I believe that this approach will give me the strength and the adjustability that are going to be required to be effective.

I will need between four and six stands. The stands will be connected by 1″x4″ boards that will hold the 18″ stage squares. The first design for the stands is included below.

The stand will be mig welded together. They must be stable enough to not tip over sideways (and crush the puppeteers). Odds are the puppets would survive but not the puppeteers. This would not be good. So I may need to adjust some of the dimensions of the base to ensure stability. I will probably look for some opportunity to include some other fail safes into the design so that a single point of failure doesn’t compromise the safety of the setup.
